Amazing Grace is fully committed to integrating the best teaching and learning practices from research based discoveries that are emerging from the learning sciences fields of neuroscience, psychology and education. We have adopted the Mind, Brain and Education (MBE) theory as taught at Harvard University and the University of Texas, Austin. MBE is interested in connecting cognition, neuroscience, and educational practice, especially involving learning, teaching, and cognitive and emotional development.
Their research, among others in learning sciences, guide Amazing Grace's teaching and learning processes. To do so from a theoretical and practical perspective we have contracted as a full-time Middle School instructor and our school's educational psychologist, Dr. Michelle Zimmerman. Her research at the University of Washington: School of Education's Learning Sciences has guided us for many years in the understanding and applying of why we do what do at Amazing Grace. We are committed to remain on the cutting edge of 21st Century education by adapting and changing our educational processes to better meet and serve the academic, emotional, social and spiritual needs of our students, especially as we learn more about applying Mind, Brain, and Education insights and discoveries into our school programs.
AGCS also recognizes the importance of fully engaging the spiritual, emotional, intellectual and physical qualities of each student. We continually strive to create a dynamic collaborative learning environment that thoughtfully integrates comprehensive Biblical teachings, mastery of Core Knowledge content, Fine Arts experiences coupled with the learning and applying of 21st Century technology skills.
We believe the use of 21st Century technology and the incorporation of Fine Arts and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) contributions from diverse cultural traditions are essential components of a complete education and a necessary requirement for technological, cultural and global literacy.
Our technology program incorporates the use of HP's 620, 6530, and Tx2 and Tm2 wireless SmartTouch Tablet laptop computer. Each 5th through 8th grade school student is issued a laptop and they accept limited responsibility for mentoring and teaching project-based technology skills to younger students. Click on this link to view a demonstration of the Tx2 and Tm2 computer's capabilities.
